This is a great novel in itself, but also the easy way in to many other great novels (both Things Fall Apart, and The Palm Wine Drinkard are much richer if you already know this text).
It is also near essential reading for anyone going into any society brutalised by empire builders:- whether that is Benin or Georgia.
