Not a diss on the uploader. But I would highly recommend avoiding this. Genuinely one of the worst novels I’ve ever read.
I liked the Rosewater books they were interesting, if flawed. This was garbage. There is so much wrong and nonsensical about it. It starts off as a murder mystery gets bored of that and becomes a terrible disaster book. It’s just a weird confused mess where there’s no interal coherence in the universe, non-existent characters stuff out of nowhere happening. It was very clearly written with zero plan and in order and not really revised. So stuff happens. About 2/3rds through the book it remembers it’s a murder mystery and the resolution is something the book is at pains to repeatedly stress is impossible and cannot be the solution in the early part of the book.
Tade Thompson also said he’d never really read any sci-fi/space opera of this sort before and it shows. He’s also a consultant doctor and writes in his spare time and I suspect this was really rushed to meet a deadline and not being a full time writer meant he couldn’t spend suitable time on it.
I knew it was awful early on and forced myself to keep reading and it genuinely left such a bad taste it sent me into a reading funk and stopped reading for about 2 months.
