I hope that, unlike the reactionary movie, the novel’s “sinister tenants” don’t include a lesbian couple who are evil, apparently, because they are lesbians. I think I even remember developmentally disabled people milling about amongst people portrayed as murderers in the movie’s finale…

It will be interesting to hear how the characters are developed in the book vs. the movie.
The movie had no evil characters, even Old Scratch was played by an older affable Burgess Meredeth.
The tenants were sinister odd characters. The filming location an actual 1850 brownstone on a unique corner lot - 10 Montague Terrace, Brooklyn Heights, Brooklyn overlooking the East River was the evil locus.
